Nuclear Safety

The work addresses hydrogen safety in nuclear power in two areas:

  • Environmental and public protection against hydrogen induced containment failure in hypothetical core-melt accidents in Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR's), and
  • Investigation of radiolysis gas (2 H2 + O2 + steam) combustion and control in operating Boiling Water Reactors (BWR's).

The developed analysis tools were applied to hydrogen management in thirteen nuclear power plants of different operating status.
